Credit: Grimshaw ArchitectsThe University of Southampton is to spearhead research into rail infrastructure as part of a £92m partnership between the rail supply industry and a consortium of eight universities aimed at establishing the UK as a world-leading centre of excellence.The partnership – part of the newly created (UKRRIN) – has won £28.1m from the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF) managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). It follows a bid successfully led by the University of Birmingham.
New Trimble Technology Lab at the National College for High Speed Rail Expands Training and Research for Rail Design, Construction and MaintenanceTrimble has made a significant in-kind gift to the UK-based National College for High Speed Rail (NCHSR) to expand its training and research in railway design, construction and maintenance. The Trimble gift enables the NCHSR to more fully integrate the technological tools across its curriculum that are rapidly transforming how construction, civil engineering, geospatial and buildings projects are designed and constructed, specifically in the railway industry.The gift will establish a Trimble Technology Lab at the recently opened NCHSR campuses in Birmingham and Doncaster.
